Where the flame comes from
Nothing burns. Water sits in the tank. A disc underneath vibrates it into cool mist. The mist rises through one outlet in the middle of the salt, and an LED under that outlet lights the plume from below.
Mist drifts and folds the way smoke does. Lit from underneath, it leans and flickers. That is the whole trick, and it is why there is no heat, no smoke and nothing to blow out. The salt around the outlet catches whichever colour is running, so the rim shifts with the plume.

Can I leave it running?

Use clean water only, and empty the tank and wipe it dry between uses. The salt chunks lift away with the top, so keep them dry and wipe them with a dry cloth. Never rinse the salt: salt dissolves in water.
