From the heart of the Himalayas

Every PinkSalt piece begins hundreds of metres inside a mountain, in salt beds laid down by an ancient sea 250 million years before the first person ever lit a lamp. Our family has been bringing that salt out of the mountain for three generations.

The family behind PinkSalt

Three generations in salt

PinkSalt is the consumer shop of Pink Salt Processing Company, our family’s Himalayan salt export house, founded in Karachi in 1962. What began as a small trading business is now a third-generation company with offices in Karachi and Dubai, supplying customers in more than 40 countries. We grew up around this crystal: grading it, carving it, and shipping it by the container. This store exists so you can bring home a genuine piece of it, straight from the family that knows it best.

Born 250 million years ago

An ancient sea, sealed inside a mountain

Long before the Himalayas rose, a shallow sea evaporated and left behind vast beds of crystal salt. Tectonic collisions folded those beds deep into the mountains, where they stayed pure and protected, tinted rose by 84 naturally occurring trace minerals.

Mined the gentle way

Hand-mined, exactly as it was centuries ago

Deep in the Salt Range of Punjab, Pakistan, home of the historic Khewra mine, miners still follow the old room-and-pillar method: carving out chambers by hand and leaving salt columns standing to support the mountain. No blasting that shatters the crystal, no heavy chemical processing. Large blocks come out intact, keeping their natural veining and warmth.

Shaped by hand

Every lamp keeps the shape the mountain gave it

Artisans cut, carve, and polish each block by hand, then hollow it for its bulb and fit a solid base. Because the crystal is natural, no two pieces ever match: your lamp’s exact shade and shape exist only once.
