All six Himalayan salt candle holder shapes, each lit by a tea light

Hand cut Himalayan salt

After dark, the whole stone turns amber.

One tea light, and a solid piece of Himalayan salt lights from the inside. The flame sits below the surface, so what you see is the rock glowing, not a candle in a cup.

  • Lights from within
  • Solid hand cut salt
  • Six shapes, one price

Before you light it, and after.

In daylight it is a pink stone on a shelf. Quiet, solid, easy to walk past.

Then the light goes and you put a flame in it, and the same stone is the warmest thing in the room. It does not throw a beam at the wall. It sits there and glows, and the colour it gives back is the colour of the rock itself.

Why this one and not a cheaper holder

  • It lights up, it does not just hold a candleGlass and metal throw the light outward and stay dark themselves. Salt is translucent, so the piece you bought is the thing that glows.
  • One solid block, not a shellEach holder is cut from the seam and the well bored into it one at a time, then finished by hand. There is no mould, and nothing is hollow but the well.
  • No two are the sameColour, veining and outline change from piece to piece, because each one comes out of a different part of the seam.
  • Six shapes, one priceIncluding a stone that holds two flames side by side, and a ying yang that ships as both halves rather than one.

Why salt does this and glass does not

A glass or metal holder throws the light outward and stays dark itself. Salt is translucent, so the light has to cross the wall of the piece to reach you, and it picks up everything inside the stone on the way out. Veining, clouded patches and iron staining all read as darker, warmer bands.

Thickness is the whole point. Where the wall is thin the stone glows pale gold and you can sometimes see the flame straight through it. Where it is thick the light turns deep amber and holds.

What does it look like lit?
What do two of them look like together?
Do both halves light?

Where it ends up

  • On the dinner tableLow enough to see across. The two well stone puts two flames in the middle of the table without a candelabra.
  • On a shelf after darkOne flame lights the whole piece, so it reads as a warm object on the shelf rather than a candle you have to keep looking at.
  • As a giftNobody already has one, and the person opening it can see it is a single piece of stone rather than something moulded.

The six shapes

All one price. Pick the outline you like, and expect the piece that arrives to be close to but not identical to the one photographed.

What you are paying for

  • Light through stone, not light in a cupThe property you are buying is translucency. It is the same reason alabaster and onyx holders get bought, and those start well above this price.
  • A solid block, cut one at a timeEach piece is cut from the seam and the well bored individually, then finished by hand. There is no mould and no two are the same.
  • Six shapes at one priceIncluding one stone that holds two flames side by side, and a ying yang that ships as both halves rather than one.

Before you buy

What size candle does it take?
A standard tea light, the small aluminium cup kind. Do not use a votive: a votive is taller and its wax melts down into the well instead of staying in its own cup.
Are tea lights included?
No. You are buying the holder on its own. Any standard tea light fits the well.
Will mine look exactly like the photograph?
No, and that is the nature of the material. Every piece is cut from a different part of the seam, so the colour, the veining and the exact outline differ from piece to piece. The height, width and weight in the table are the reliable part.
Does it sweat, and how do I clean it?
Salt draws moisture from the air, so in a humid room a piece can feel damp and can mark wood. Stand it on a coaster or a small dish, and keep it out of the bathroom if yours gets steamy. Wipe it with a dry cloth, never a wet one, and never rinse it: salt dissolves in water. In a normally dry room you will not notice any of this.
Is it safe to burn?
The holder is solid rock salt, so it will not burn. Treat the candle the way you would any open flame: stand it on a surface that tolerates heat, keep it clear of anything that can catch, and never leave a burning candle unattended or leave one burning while you sleep.
Can I use an LED tea light?
Yes, and the fit is the same. It will not look quite the same, because a flame moves and an LED does not, but it suits anywhere an open flame is not sensible.
Does the salt do anything to the air?
We make no claims about that. It is here for how it looks with a light inside it, and that is the whole of it.
What if I do not like it?
Send it back within 30 days for your money back. Shipping to you is free on every US order, with no minimum.
